Time for the T’Wolves…The only real thing in their history is Kevin Garnett…he’s the only one that brought at least some DECENT years…
(1) 2004 Minnesota Timberwolves (58-24) vs. (22) 2010 Minnesota Timberwolves (15-67)
We pick the T’Wolves up with MVP KG in beast mode, averaging 24-14-5 on a largely successful Wolves team (that missed the playoffs next year after a 14 win decline…). And he brought Minneapolis 58 wins when his best teammates are Latrell Sprewell (17-4-4) and Sam Cassell (20-3-7). They made the West Finals before losing to LA….after 7 straight 1st round exits…
Wow…this is a total wreck…Al Jefferson had 17-9, Kevin Love had 14-11, and Johnny Flynn had 14-2-4….
(2) 2003 Minnesota Timberwolves (51-31) vs. (21) 1992 Minnesota Timberwolves (15-67)
They lost to LA in the first round, with KG having 23-13-6, Wally Szczerbiak had 18-5 (in 52 games), and Troy Hudson had 14-2-6.
We enter the dark ages of T’Wolves history…(And this is their BRIGHT green era…the unis aren’t that bad…I actually like them…I hate their current ones, and their bests are the KG era unis…). No one is that great…Pooh Richardson has 17-4-8, Tony Campbell has 17-4-3, and Doug West had 14-3-4 while Sam Mitchell added 10-6.
(3) 2000 Minnesota Timberwolves (50-32) vs. (20) 2011 Minnesota Timberwolves (17-65)
Another 1st round exit, this time at the hands of the Blazers…KG had 23-12-5, and Terrell Brandon had 17-3-9, and Szczerbiak had 12-4-3.
Michael Beasley had 19-6, and Kevin Love led the league in boards, with 20-15…Yeah, yeah whatever…I don’t think it’s very impressive, considering how bad the rest of his team is (Beasley is second in boards on this team…). Luke Ridnour started at point, averaging 12-3-5, while Flynn was neglected to the bench (5-2-3..and shipped out after the year).
(4) 2002 Minnesota Timberwolves (50-32) vs. (19) 1993 Minnesota Timberwolves (19-63)
Their first round SWEEP came from Dallas this time. KG had 21-12-5, Szczerbiak had 19-5-3, and Chauncey Billups had 13-3-6.
Doug West had 19-3-3, Chuck Person had 17-6-4, Christian Laettner had 18-9 to debut, and Michael Williams had 15-4-9…I have nothing to say…I never realized how awful the T’Wolves used to be….
(5) 2001 Minnesota Timberwolves (47-35) vs. (18) 1994 Minnesota Timberwolves (20-62)
First round defeat came from San Antonio this year. KG had 22-11-5, and they got 16-4-8 from Terrell Brandon, and 14-6 from Wally Szczerbiak.
Here’s the debut of one of the best pre-KG player, Isaiah Rider, who had 17-4-3 this year. Christian Laettner had 17-9-4, Michael Williams had 14-3-7, and Doug West had 15-3. This team doesn’t seem as awful as some earlier varieties….
(6) 1998 Minnesota Timberwolves (45-37) vs. (17) 1995 Minnesota Timberwolves (21-61)
1st round defeat came from Sonics this year. KG had 19-10-4, as Tom Gugliotta had 20-9 in only 41 games. Stephon Marbury had 18-3-9 and Sam Mitchell added 12 points…
This got them KG…Isaiah Rider matured to 20-3-3, though his off-court attitude regressed…Christian Laettner had 16-8, Doug West had 13-3-3, and Sean Rooks had 11-6, as Gugliotta played only 31 games.
(7) 2005 Minnesota Timberwolves (44-38) vs. (16) 2008 Minnesota Timberwolves (22-60)
The year after KG’s (22-14-6) MVP year doesn’t even warrant a playoff spot…Szczerbiak had 16-4, Sam Cassell played only 59 games (14-3-5), and Sprewell regressed to 13-3 (and was out of the league the next year…I wonder if his kids got fed in 2006.
Year One without KG…Al Jefferson had 21-11…and blew out his knee the next year…Rashad McCants had 15-3…and Randy Foye logged only 39 games…
(8) 1999 Minnesota Timberwolves (25-25) vs. (15) 1990 Minnesota Timberwolves (22-60)
1st round exit came from San Antonio this year…KG had 21-10-4, and Marbury (18-3-9) was traded to New Jersey for essentially Terrell Brandon (14-4-10). Joe Smith had 14-8, and Sam Mitchell had 11-4.
Year one of the T’Wolves brought two good rookies, Sam Mitchell (13-6), and Pooh Richardson (11-3-7), while Tony Campbell had a great year (23-6-3), and Tyrone Corbin (15-7) did too.
(9) 1997 Minnesota Timberwolves (40-42) vs. (14) 2009 Minnesota Timberwolves (24-58)
The first playoff appearance in Wolves history was a first round sweep from Houston (that started the 7 year tradition, broken in 2004…and then they never made the playoffs again…). KG had a pretty good sophomore year (17-8-3), but it was Tom Gugliotta who led scoring, with his 21-9-4 nightly…Stephon Marbury debuted in the NBA with 16-3-8.
Another bad year…Al Jefferson had 23-11 before he injured his knee 50 games into the year. Randy Foye had 16-3-4, and Kevin Love had a good rookie year, averaging 11-9.
(10) 2006 Minnesota Timberwolves (33-49) vs. (13) 1996 Minnesota Timberwolves (26-56)
KG had 22-13-4…and Szczerbiak had 20-5…until he was traded to Boston for (wait for it….) Ricky Davis (19-5-5)! This got them Brandon Roy…who they traded for Randy Foye…That seems dumb even with all of Roy’s injuries…
19 year old KG debuted with…….10-6…Isiah Rider had 20-4, and was traded to the Jail Blazers after the year…Laettner (18-7) was traded for Spud Webb (9-2-6). Tom Gugliotta had 16-9, and Sam Mitchell had 12-4…
(11) 2007 Minnesota Timberwolves (32-50) vs. (12) 1991 Minnesota Timberwolves (29-53)
Finally our last matchup! This team was REALLY bad….KG had 22-13-4, Ricky Davis had 17-4-5, and Mark Blount had 12-6…
Year two of the T’Wolves…Tony Campbell had 22-5-3, Tyrone Corbin had 18-7-4, Sam Mitchell had 15-6, and Pooh Richardson had 17-4-9…easily beats 2007…
There we have it..The T’Wolves…That was a short, history, yet they managed to have some REALLY bad years…
Ladies and gentlemen, your Minnesota Timberwolves! Next, J-Kidd, and the New Jersey Nets!
