(11) 1994 Utah Jazz (53-29) vs. (28) 2011 Utah Jazz (39-43)
Not bad…Karl had 25-12, as Stock had 15-3-13, and the other Malone, Jeff, had 16-2. Tom Chambers had 11-4, as Jeff Hornacek was traded over from Philly for 27 games (15-3-4).
The most recent team…Deron Williams (21-4-10) was traded to New Jersey for Derrick Favors (8-5), and Devin Harris (16-2-5). Al Jefferson had 19-10, and Paul Millsap added 17-8.
(12) 2001 Utah Jazz (53-29) vs. (27) 1978 New Orleans Jazz (39-43)
Don’t really like these early 2000s teams…just old Malone (23-8-5), and old Stockton (12-3-9) are really good (if that)…Donyell Marshall had 14-7…….
Pistol Pete (27-4-7) played only 50 games this year. Not too bad of a support cast, as Truck Robinson (23-16) led the league in boards, and Gail Goodrich had 16-2-5.
(13) 2010 Utah Jazz (53-29) vs. (26) 2006 Utah Jazz (41-41)
OK team…Williams had 19-4-11, as Boozer had 20-11. Also contributing, Okur (14-7), and 58 games of Kirilenko (12-5), plus 12-7 from Paul Millsap.
Rookie Deron Williams debuted with 11-2-5, as Boozer was limited to 33 games, so this was Okur’s team (18-9). AK47 had 15-8-4.
(14) 1989 Utah Jazz (51-31) vs. (25) 1985 Utah Jazz (41-41)
I find it surprising the Jazz are still above 50 wins…But they were great for a long time…This year is no exception…This team will probably get far…Karl had 29-11, Stockton had 17-3-14, as Thurl Bailey added 20-6 off the bench. Mark Eaton had 6-10, and almost 4 blocks, as Darrell Griffith had 14-4.
John Stockton debuted with 6-1-5, as the team was built around Dantley (27-6…in only 55 games), and Griffith (23-4-3). Mark Eaton had 10-11, and 5.6 blocks (no lie….5.6), Thurl Bailey had 15-7, and Rickey Green had 13-3-8…Not a bad team at all….
(15) 2007 Utah Jazz (51-31) vs. (24) 2004 Utah Jazz (42-40)
Not bad…Boozer had 21-12, Okur had 18-7, Deron Williams had 16-3-9, and Derek Fisher had 10-2-3.
Not good…Kirilenko is their only really good player, and he only gets them 17-8-3 a night…..
(16) 2009 Utah Jazz (48-34) vs. (23) 1986 Utah Jazz (42-40)
Ol’ Boozey played only 37 games…so Williams had 19-3-11, Okur had 17-8, Ronnie Brewer had 14-4, and Paul Millsap had 14-9…Just slipped below 50 wins….
This was Adrian Dantley’s team (30-5-4), but Karl Malone debuted well (15-9). Thurl Bailey had 15-6, Rickey Green had 12-2-5, Mark Eaton had 9-8, and almost 5 blocks, and John Stockton had 8-2-7.
(17) 1988 Utah Jazz (47-35) vs. (22) 2002 Utah Jazz (44-38)
Not bad…Karl had 28-12, Stock had 15-3-14, Thurl Bailey had 20-7, and Eaton had 7-9, and just about 4 blocks…Griffith played only 52 games (11-2-2…)…
Another old Stockton (13-3-8), and Malone (22-9-4) team. Donny Marshall had 15-8….
(18) 1993 Utah Jazz (47-35) vs. (21) 1987 Utah Jazz (44-38)
I like this team…Karl had 27-11-4, Jeff Malone had 18-2-2, and Stock had 15-3-12…Pretty good….
Not bad…pretty good for 44 wins….Karl had 22-10, Griffith had 15-3, and Thurl Bailey had 14-5.
Not to mention 10-3-3 from Kelly Tripuka, 10-2-7 from Rickey Green, 8-2-8 from Stock, and 8-9 (plus 4 blocks) from Eaton….
(19) 2003 Utah Jazz (47-35) vs. (20) 1984 Utah Jazz (45-37)
The final Stock-Malone year. Fitting that it is the last matchup. This is also Stock’s last NBA year (he’s 40). Malone would venture to LA for next year (and retire at age 40). In 2003, Karl had 21-8-5, and John Stockton had 11-3-8, as they were surrounded by Matt Harpring (18-7), and Andrei Kirilenko (12-5).
Dantley was the league scoring leader (31-6-4), as Griffith had 20-4-4, John Drew had 18-4, and Ricky Green had 13-3-9. Mark Eaton also added 6-7 and 4 blocks.
So that concludes the Jazz. Not much to say to sum it up….But a good team overall….
Ladies and gentlemen, your New Orleans/Utah Jazz! Next, our final team! Wes, Earl, and the crew in DC.
